Cole Brandt and Finn Rourke were 24 and 23 years old when they walked into the BOND arena. They looked like teenagers and competed like veterans. Former high school football teammates from Denver who had stayed close through college, they arrived as the field's youngest duo and left as its runner-up — surviving two early near-misses, earning back-to-back immunities, winning Episode 5 outright, defeating Ironblood in the semifinal, and losing the finale by 35 seconds on a single grid panel miss that had nothing to do with their fitness, their coordination, or their chemistry. Redline were the second-best team of Season 1. On a different night, they might have been the best.

The Members

Cole Brandt
Age 24 — 5'10" — Denver, CO

Former wide receiver and occasional slot back in high school, where he and Finn played together for three seasons. Now works in construction site management in Denver. The more vocal of the two throughout the season — quicker to strategise out loud, quicker to reassure, and consistently the more technically precise on carrying and coordination formats. His Episode 3 bar hold of exactly 4:00 — hitting the hidden immunity threshold to the second — became one of the most discussed individual moments of the season. In the finale he ran the grid stage as Caller, delivering clean instructions through the first panel and then compressing too hard on panel two. Finn missed. They reset and finished. Cole said nothing about it after the race.

Finn Rourke
Age 23 — 5'9" — Denver, CO

Former linebacker who played alongside Cole through high school before focusing on recreational athletics in college. Sandy-haired, perpetually slightly dishevelled, and deceptively strong for his lean frame. Finn's Episode 2 grid traverse as Runner — zero panel misses, clean on every step — established Redline's credentials in a format that punished hesitation. His Netspan traverse in Episode 5 was similarly precise. In the finale, the grid panel miss at step two was his — a direction he misread under time pressure with Ironblood's time on the board behind them. He re-ran the sequence clean on the second attempt. He was the last Redline member to speak at the end-of-season broadcast and kept it to one sentence.

On the Show

Redline's arc across Season 1 was the most improbable of any finalist. They placed 7th in Episode 1 — safe only because Doubledown's penalties pushed them to last — and 2nd in Episode 2, their first genuinely strong performance. In Episode 3 Cole's 4:00 bar hold triggered the hidden immunity clause, giving them two consecutive protected episodes and the breathing room to develop as a team without elimination pressure. By Episode 5 they were winning outright.

Their semifinal victory over Ironblood — 7:38 to 7:59 across the Crossload course — was earned through a deliberate training emphasis on symmetric implement carries. Cole's post-show admission that they had specifically prepared for the log carry format after observing Ironblood's height disparity in earlier challenges was widely discussed in post-season coverage.

The finale grid miss was the single incident that separated Redline from $125,000. Without the restart, their finale time would have been approximately 31:45 — one second behind Lockstep. The margin was so close that it remains the most discussed individual moment of Season 1.

They finished at 32:19. Lockstep won at 31:44. Thirty-five seconds across 31 minutes. Redline took off their matching red kits in the arena and shook hands with Adrienne and Simone before the broadcast cut away.

Legacy

Redline's Season 1 run — from 7th place in Episode 1 to runner-up in the finale — is the most dramatic upward trajectory of any team in the season. They began as the field's youngest, most underprepared-looking duo and ended as the team that came closest to winning. Their back-to-back immunities in Episodes 3 and 4, their first outright win in Episode 5, and their semifinal defeat of the season's most consistent team gave them a narrative arc that the winner's story didn't quite match.

The finale grid restart — one panel miss, 34 seconds, the margin of the whole season — remained the single most discussed individual incident from Season 1 in viewer commentary and post-season analysis. Finn Rourke declined multiple interview requests to revisit it. Cole Brandt said once, in a brief post-season magazine piece, that he'd given the wrong instruction and it was on him, not Finn. The piece ran four sentences. He never addressed it publicly again.
