Adrienne Coles and Simone Hartley were not the most physically dominant team in Season 1. They were the most complete. Former collegiate track athletes from Atlanta, best friends for over a decade, they arrived at BOND with a shared athletic vocabulary and a strategic awareness that no other team in the field matched. They won two episodes, earned and deployed two advantages, converted a third into immunity, received a semifinal bye, and won the finale. From Episode 1 onwards, Lockstep never finished below 4th. They were never eliminated. They were, in every measurable sense, the right team to win.
The Members
Former 400m relay anchor at Georgia Tech, where she ran alongside Simone for three seasons. Now works as a personal trainer in Atlanta, specialising in sprint and conditioning programmes. Adrienne was the tactical voice of Lockstep — the one who read the field, made the advantage decisions, and communicated in the terse, precise way that high-pressure athletic situations demand. Her Episode 2 Caller performance — delivering grid instructions in a clipped, cadenced rhythm that Simone later described as exactly how she talks when she's most accurate — set the tone for how Lockstep operated throughout. In the finale she ran Stage 1 and Stage 3 on the wall sit, both clean on the first attempt. She spoke first after the win. She was mid-sentence when Simone started crying.
Former 100m and 200m sprinter at Georgia Tech, also now a personal trainer. Where Adrienne was precise and tactical, Simone was explosive and adaptive — quicker off first movement, more instinctive in real-time adjustments. Her Episode 2 grid traverse as Runner — clean, no hesitation, zero panel misses — was the performance that won the episode and established Lockstep as a genuine contender. In Episode 3 her combined endurance hold time contributed directly to their 4th-place finish without losing safety. In the finale she ran the final sprint under a shared yoke with a carry angle so clean it looked rehearsed, which it was. She was crying before Adrienne finished speaking.
On the Show
Lockstep's season was defined by their advantage management as much as their physical performance. They won Episode 2 and used the advantage to assign Anchor to the hardest platform lane in Episode 3 — a decision that contributed directly to Anchor's elimination. They won Episode 4 and banked the advantage rather than using it immediately, converting it to immunity in Episode 5 when the field had narrowed to four and the risk of a bad night outweighed any tactical edge the advantage might provide. Their cumulative win total — two outright victories across seven episodes — earned them the semifinal bye that put them in the finale without competing in Episode 6.
In the finale, they ran the Full Bond course cleanly across all five stages. Redline's grid restart in Stage 2 gave them a 26-second lead they extended to 31 at Stage 3 and held all the way through the line. Their winning time of 31:44 across a 31-minute course left 35 seconds between them and the runner-up.
Lockstep's record across Season 1: 5th (E1), 1st (E2), 4th (E3), 1st (E4), 2nd (E5), bye (E6), 1st (E7 finale). Never below 5th. Never in elimination danger. The most strategically dominant performance in Season 1 history.

Episode Appearances
Legacy
Lockstep are the first champions in BOND history. Their Season 1 record — two outright wins, three episodes of advantage or immunity protection, a semifinal bye, and a finale victory by 35 seconds — established the template for what dominant Season 1 play looked like. Their strategic management of advantages, particularly the conversion of an order-setting privilege into immunity in Episode 5, was cited repeatedly in post-season analysis as the pivotal decision of the season.
Adrienne Coles's post-win remarks — "we didn't just train for this show, we trained for each other" — were the most-quoted lines from the finale broadcast. Simone Hartley's response was to cry. They remain, as of Season 1, the only duo in BOND history to win every challenge they entered in the finale.
