Seven episodes. Eight duos. One night left. The Season 1 finale of BOND came down to Lockstep and Redline — the two teams who had accumulated the most advantages, won the most episodes, and spent the fewest nights in genuine elimination danger across the entire season. It was not the finale anyone had predicted after Episode 1. It was exactly the finale the show had built toward. Adrienne Coles and Simone Hartley won $125,000.
The Finale Format
The finale challenge — "The Full Bond" — was a purpose-built multi-stage course designed to test every dimension covered across the season: endurance, load capacity, coordination, communication, and trust. It was longer, heavier, and more complex than any prior challenge, and it was the first challenge of Season 1 in which both duos ran the same course simultaneously in adjacent lanes with full visibility of each other throughout.
The course ran for approximately 800 metres of total movement across five stages. Time was cumulative from first movement through the final line. Stage transitions were self-managed — there were no holds, no windows, no external timing systems. The only rule beyond the carry specifications was that both partners had to cross every stage marker together before advancing.
The Five Stages
200 metres of shared sandbag carry — same format as Episode 1's Dead Weight, but with a combined load of 140% of the lighter partner's bodyweight. No exchange windows. Partners chose their own transfer points.
A condensed six-panel version of Episode 2's Relay Read. One partner blindfolded, one calling. Three panels, no penalties — but a missed panel required a full restart from the beginning of the grid section.
A 90-second simultaneous endurance hold — one partner on a weighted bar, one in a wall sit. Both had to survive the full 90 seconds to advance. A break by either partner reset the clock to zero. No limit on attempts.
A shortened version of Episode 5's cargo net traverse — 30 metres, single crossing, no blindfold, no tether exchange required. Both partners had to complete the traverse within 10 seconds of each other.
100 metres. Both partners carrying a single shared implement — a loaded yoke — across a flat sprint course to the finish line. First duo to cross with both partners and the implement over the line wins.
What Happened
Through Stage 1 Redline held a slight edge — their lighter, leaner builds produced a faster transfer rhythm on the sandbag carry and they entered Stage 2 approximately 8 seconds ahead. The grid section erased it. Finn Rourke missed panel two on the first attempt, triggering a full restart. Cole Brandt's second set of instructions were cleaner and Finn completed the grid on the retry, but the restart cost them 34 seconds and handed Lockstep a 26-second lead entering Stage 3.
Stage 3 was where the finale was decided. Both duos held their endurance positions through the first 90-second attempt. Redline made it through cleanly on the first try — Cole on the bar, Finn in the wall sit. Lockstep also cleared it on the first attempt — Adrienne in the wall sit, Simone on the bar — but exited Stage 3 first having entered it first, and their lead extended to 31 seconds.
Stages 4 and 5 were run under pressure but without incident. Both duos cleared the net traverse cleanly. The final sprint came down to yoke carry mechanics — Lockstep's matched heights and practised symmetry gave them a marginally cleaner carry angle that they held all the way through the line.
Lockstep crossed the finish line in 31:44. Redline finished at 32:19. Thirty-five seconds across a 31-minute finale course. Adrienne Coles and Simone Hartley — best friends from Atlanta, former college track athletes, the most advantage-dominant team of Season 1 — won $125,000.

Trivia
The finale drew 13.2 million viewers — the highest-rated episode of Season 1 and ABC's strongest Monday performance in that time slot in over three years. The network renewed BOND for a second season before the finale aired.
Lockstep's winning margin of 35 seconds across a 31-minute course was the closest finale result in BOND's first three seasons. The grid restart that cost Redline 34 seconds was the defining incident — without it the margin would have been under a second.
The Full Bond finale course was the only challenge in Season 1 that explicitly referenced and incorporated elements from prior episodes. Producers described it as a deliberate design choice — the finale should test the whole season, not introduce a new format.
Lockstep never finished below 4th in any episode of Season 1. Their combined record — 1st (E2), 4th (E3), 1st (E4), 2nd (E5), bye (E6), 1st (finale) — made them the most consistent team across the season's second half by any measure.
Finn Rourke's grid panel miss in Stage 2 of the finale was the first mistake either Redline member made in any grid or navigation-based challenge across the season. It was also the only mistake in the finale that directly altered the result.
Adrienne Coles's post-win remarks on the arena floor — in which she said "we didn't just train for this show, we trained for each other" — were the most-quoted lines from the Season 1 finale in subsequent coverage. Simone Hartley was crying before Adrienne finished the sentence.
